 How to choose the correct size Cornish Gansey to knit;

Firstly, thank you for choosing our Classic Gansey pattern. Gansey sweaters are dense and designed to be worn quite closely fitting and our sizing is designed to reflect thise. For instance, the 42in chest will exactly measure 42in when knitted. Therefore, in order to select the correct size to knit , I suggest you find a favourite sweater in your wardrobe, take chest measurements from it and use this in your final size choice. Body length, armhole depth and sleeve length are all calculated to meet UK Standard Body measurements but there are also extra options included in the pattern instructions to adjust sleeve, cuff and body lengths to suit you if, like many of us, you are not a UK Standard.

I have tried to keep things as easy to follow as possible and include helpful step by step guides at potential tricky points along the way. If you do need additional support, then please do not hesitate to contact me at thecornishganseycompany@aol.co.uk where I will do my utmost to try and assist you.

Ready To Wear Sizing:

If you are ordering a bespoke knitted Gansey from us, please follow the same steps and refer to a favourite sweater already in your possession. It would help us even more if you supplied the following measurements (taken either from the sweater or your own body measurements)

1: Actual chest measurement.

2: Length from back of neck down to lower welt

3: Sleeve length taken from underarm

5:Armhole depth taken at the point where the sleeve is attached at the shoulder.

Any other moderations or measurements you feel relevant should be made at the time of ordering so we can ensure you have the perfect fitting Gansey which will serve you faithfully for many years to come

Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy knitting your Gansey.

Happy knitting

Tina B
