Everything you need to knit Devon's Appledore Gansey
This attractive Appledore Gansey Kit was originally produced by the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon with design input from Josephine Sims in conjuction with their 2015 exhibition called Fishtival.
The Appledore Gansey is one of the purest and simplest of the gansey sweaters. Knitted on slightly larger 2.75mm needles and with the patterning only present on the shoulder straps, this kit would be the ideal gateway for those new to knitting ganseys.
Each kit is contained inside a sturdy project bag and contains 1 x copy of Prangs, Tacks and Frocks written by Josephine Sims and John Whitlock with photos, history and a complete pattern to knit an Appledore Gansey, 2 x 500g cones of 100% British 5 ply Guernsey wool, 1 set of 5 x 40cm long 2.75mm steel needles
The kit is designed to be adapted to fit all sizes. Josephine has written the pattern in the booklet for a 40in/102cm chest. However, she also gives easy to follow instructions for calculating the pattern for larger or smaller sizes.
